WHAT DO THE OWNERS HAVE TO SAY?
We thank you for our interest in our home. 64 Midland has been our home since 2004 and it has been truly an amazing place to live and raise our kids. We have made life-long friends with neighbors young and old from all walks of life. The house is cozy and welcoming – and we have hosted many neighborhood gatherings as well as celebrations for our international family and friends. When we asked our kids (16 and 17 years old) about their best memory of 64 Midland, they both said the block parties and the neighbors.
Midland is a unique spot in Maplewood – our block is like the United Nations with a full representation of folks from all corners of the world, multi-ethnic, mixed-race, gay and straight. It’s an oasis in this crazy fast-moving society. Our favorite way to gather folks was through old-fashioned stoop parties – literally, we would sit on the front stoop and share a coffee or a glass of wine while kids played baseball on the lawn. So our grass isn’t perfect and it’s worn but we had fun with bounce houses as birthday parties and water fights in the summer.
The house itself is warm and cozy – we have loved our kitchen and been able to host family dinners (with friends we call family) for groups of 8. We have filled every corner of the house with memories.
Our neighbourhood is safe and friendly. In many ways, this house is the perfect place to raise a family, to enjoy privacy and community, to feel safe and warm.
Our kids walked to school from Kindergarten through high school. In the earlier years, it was fun to walk with them and the neighbors to Clinton. By the time they were at South Orange Middle School, of course, they did not want the escort, but we carpooled with neighbors and it made the middle school years so much easier. Now our kids choose to walk most places – Columbia HS, town or SOPAC (South Orange Performing Arts Center). They loved to go to the parks nearby – Borden, Maplecrest or Clinton – and again we made lifelong friends with the folks we met in these places.
We have schlepped our cooler and lawn chairs to Memorial park for July 4, Memorial Day, Maplewoodstock, NJ PRIDE and a host of our other town events – so yes – town is walkable!
We hope you will feel warm and welcome in this space – as we move onto a new life and adventures, as our careers change and our kids go off to college. We wish you well.
Live – Laugh – Love has been our theme is this oasis. We hope it brings you as much life, love and happiness as we have experienced.
